OZ Breed – Grasses

These plants have now been extensively used in the landscape and have proven to be one of our strong selling products. We have recently doubled our production in all sizes from Viro Tubes to 140mm pots and are continuing to work with our clients in trialing new species.

Current stocks are:

Dianella Breeze
Breeze is a tidy tough ground cover plant that grows to 700mm high with a spread of approximately 650mm. Breeze will survive in wet and cold areas in Australia, with some of the foliage browning off. In these areas the plant will reform to a perennial growth. Trim approximately once every 5 to 8 years.
Breeze is the perfect plant for landscaping, not only is it versatile and hardy, it will produce a mass of flowers making any landscape attractive.

Dianella Cassa Blue
This tough, drought and frost tolerant Dianella caerulea’s foliage grows to approximately 400mm tall with a spread of 400mm. It has a mass of baby blue flowers. Its form is more of a clumping Dianella caerulea rather than spreading.
Its stunning blue foliage, and highly desirable size and shape, make it the ideal plant for commercial landscape, and home garden design.

Dianella King Alfred
King Alfred has unique blue green coloured foliage that can handle wet feet as well as dry conditions. It grows to approximately 600-700mm in height and 600-700mm in width. It has purple and yellow flowers which extend up to 1m in spring, followed by attractive purple berries. Grows well in full sun and moderately shaded positions, tolerates windy and salt laden positions. It will also tolerate heavy clay to sandy soils and will keep beautiful clean foliage in both wet and relatively dry conditions.

Dianella Little Jess
‘Little Jess’ only grows to 400mm which is about half the height of many forms of Dianella caerulea. Little Jess is a great commercial and domestic plant. An estimated trimming once every 8 years makes this one of the lowest maintenance plants there is. It is a compact, clumping, ornamental plant similar in habit to a dwarf, non-invasive bamboo. Glossy green foliage with elevated bluish-purple flowers in spring, followed by attractive purple berries.

Dianella Little Rev
This is a very hardy landscape plant that will require little maintenance once established. Dianella ‘Little Rev’ has an average mature height of around 300mm, which makes it ideal for Road Sides, Median Strips, Roundabouts, Car Parks, Golf Courses and Ornamental Gardens. With its beautiful blue-grey colour, it’s just terrific.

Dianella Tas Red
This drought and frost tolerant specimen is a hardy plant and will make a great native alternative to New Zealand flax. Grows to a height and width of approximately 400mm. With its deep red and yellow flowers, Tas Red certainly puts on a show in spring.

Lomandra Katrinus
‘Katrinus’ is a soft weeping form of Lomandra longifolia with fine brilliant lime green foliage that is ideally suited to heavier clay type soils. Katrinus grows to approximately 1m tall and as wide with large sprays of flowers in spring.
Lomandra longifolia in general is very drought tolerant, Katrinus is no exception.

Lomandra Tanika
In New South Wales Lomandra Tanika has proven to be one of the toughest, most reliable landscape plants over the last couple of years. It has filled an ongoing need that previously went unfulfilled. Tanika grows to a height of 500-600mm with a spread of 650mm wide.

Pennisetum Nafray
Nafray has a beautiful cream purple seed head, which flowers for a long period of the year from December to May. Pennisetum has an average maximum height of 800-900mm. Nafray has a good spread of around 800mm, thus when planted at a rate of 10-15 per sq m, it will normally out compete weeds.

Poa Eskdale
Years ago a breeding program developed a Poa labillardieri that shined above others. Eskdale was selected after a couple of generations of breeding, from a hot dry area. Whether it is used as an under story, garden plant or ground cover, Eskdale performs well. It is humidity and drought tolerant. Poa labillardieri cv Eskdale is easily the best, low cost roadside or mass planting plant available.
Grows to approximately 500mm tall and 500mm wide.

Poa Kingsdale
Kingsdale has fine blue arching leaves which add softness and stunning colour to any garden design. Also performs well on sloping sites that require erosion control. Trim annually in autumn or late winter for peek performance. Kingsdale tolerates most soil conditions and grows to a height of 450mm. It is frost and drought tolerant and excellent for use in commercial plantings.

Themeda Mingo
Themeda ‘Mingo’ a blue prostrate form of Kangaroo grass with rusty red/brown semi prostrate seed heads. It flowers over summer months. ‘Mingo’ has an overall spread of about 600mm in diameter and stands approx 150mm to 300mm tall.
